Our success will fuel the success of others. As a proud social enterprise based in Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland), MarkerTree dedicates 51% of the profits to furthering Indigenous language reclamation efforts.
MarkerTree was founded by Jef Combdon, a 30+ year MarCom and Media Strategist who has worked with many of Canada's top brands and companies including Molson Coors, Kraft, Colgate, KFC, DuPont, DHL, Clearnet (Telus), Maple Leaf Foods, and Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism.
After three decades of working with holding company and independently owned agencies in both Toronto and St. John's, Jef decided to form MarkerTree, the country's first and only social enterprise in this space, putting purpose into the marketing communications business.
As a proud Mi'kmaw and active member of the Ktaqmkukewaq Mi'kmaq community, Jef is passionate about language reclamation, co-founding the Ktaqmkuk Mi'kmaw Fluency Project (a student lead online and immersion school) and creating MarkerTree, a company born with two mandates:
1) Guide our clients towards more successful business outcomes
2) Help fund content creation to further the Mi'kmaw language reclamation

MarkerTree uses a unique approach to crafting solutions for clients. Our approach builds from the principle of Etuaptmumk (two-eyed seeing), by applying an Indigenous lens and world-view to problem solving and marketing communications; striving to create more meaningful and enduring business outcomes while using the best processes and tools available to today's agency practice - its a blend of traditional ways and values, powered up with modern marketing science.
This unique approach helps clients reframe how they engage all stakeholders, drive their growth objectives, while also elevating their consumer and customer in the process.
